Committees at ACCP

Leadership, Innovation, and Growth

The American College of Correctional Physicians relies on its committees to help formulate policy, guide programs, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors.  If you would like to volunteer for one of the committees below, please contact us at:  [email protected]

  • Gather Articles

Education

  • Recommend to the Board of Directors educational programs that should be conducted.
  • Select topics for presentation at educational programs.
  • Conduct and review needs assessment to help determine the educational needs of members, including input from the member services committee.
  • Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of the committee’s work.
  • Monitor the progress of the program over the course of the year and provide a summary report at the midyear and annual Board meetings.
  • Subcommittees may be formed to divide the task of developing different conferences and seminars throughout the year.

Fellowship

  • Review fellowship applications to make sure member meets criteria
  • Present Fellowship applications to the board of directors for approval
  • Review and recommend change to the advancement to fellowship requirements
  • Assist members to obtain fellowship

Information and Technology

  • Establish and moderate the ACCP Facebook (Meta) Correctional Medicine Community group
  • Evaluate and recommend adoption of new social media platforms and other IT technology to the benefit of ACCP and its members

Membership and Marketing

  • Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors criteria for membership, fellowship and mentors.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain members, fellows and mentors.
  • Advise the education committee of mentor-related activities and issues that might be incorporated into educational programs.
  • Develop internal policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of the committee’s work.
  • Monitor the progress of the program over the course of the year and provide a summary report at the midyear and annual Board meetings.

Policy and Position

  • Monitor current news and correctional health care trends. Select topics for policy comment to the Board of Directors. Address topics chosen by the Board of Directors for review or comment.
  • Recommend comments and formal policy statements to the Board of Directors for their consideration.
  • Appoint members to represent ACCP in policy activities of other industry organizations, e.g, committees, panels, round-tables.
  • Review policies, guidelines, position statements, etc., from other industry organizations that come before the College for comment, endorsement or sponsorship.
  • Monitor the progress of activities over the course of the year, and through the committee chair provide a summary report at the annual board meeting and other board meetings as requested.

ACCP aims to lead and support correctional physicians while advocating for patients and becoming a nationally recognized voice in correctional medicine.
