Psychopharmacological interventions for self-injurious behavior

Objectives:

  1. Identify key psychiatric disorders commonly associated with self-injurious behavior (SIB)
  2. Describe potential neurobiological mechanisms underlying SIB
  3. Explore psychopharmacologic strategies for the treatment of SIB

Michael G. Rayel, MD

Dr. Rayel is the Regional Medical Director for Mental Health Services at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – Managed Care. He also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and is the Program Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program within the School of Medicine.

With over 20 years of experience in clinical care, teaching, and leadership, Dr. Rayel is board certified in five specialties, including Forensic Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. Additionally, he holds the designation of Certified Health Care Quality and Management and Certified Correctional Health Professional.
