Using the Collaborative Care Model of Psychiatric Services in a Carceral Setting

  2. Provide an overview of psychiatric needs in carceral settings
  3. Models of applying this process in carceral 
  4. Describe the benefits of the collaborative care model in this setting

Cassandra Newkirk, MD

Dr. Newkirk is the Chief Clinical Officer for Recovery Solutions, overseeing all clinical services for the behavioral health company. A Board-Certified Forensic Psychiatrist with over 40 years of experience, she has held leadership roles in community hospitals, correctional systems, and private practice, including serving as Mental Health Director for the Georgia Department of Corrections, Rikers Island, and the Philadelphia Prison System. She has also served as an expert witness in prison litigation cases and currently teaches as Adjunct Faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Newkirk is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and remains active in advancing community psychiatric services nationwide.
