Richard Kosierowski will be discussing evidence-based cancer screening in resource limited settings as well as providing an update on HIV-related cancers
9:45-10:40AM – Pearls on Coordination of MH and Physical Health
Pearls on Coordination of MH and Physical Health – Amanda Tillemans and Scott Eliason will be sharing their experiences on how best to integrate mental health care in the physical care of the patient. They will review what every mental health clinician wants the physical health physician to know.

Infectious Disease Updates: Alysse Wurcel will be discussing infectious disease outbreaks and outbreak management, sharing methods to contain and eradicate

Withdrawal Management Updates – Justin Berk will present approaches to treat patients who are detoxing from substances and review novel protocols. He will touch on strategies including CIWA and librium use, fentanyl and macrodosing, and methadone continuation and utilization of 72-hour rule vs conversion to buprenorphine.

Technology Advances in Correctional Health Fireside Chat – Bhatti, Johnny Wu, and Justin Sterett will host an informal discussion amongst them as well as take questions from the participants regarding new technologies that have emerged in to the care of the patient, but also their drawbacks.

Peer Learning Opportunities – Jennifer Clarke, John May, Wendy Orm, and Radha Sadacharan will present a panel discussing meeting the educational needs of the correctional physician, highlighting peer learning methods such as Project ECHO.

Lower Extremity Tips and Tricks – Darin Haugland will demonstrate the utility of over the counter foot, ankle, knee devices and braces to protect skin and joints, obviating the need to send patients to podiatry or an orthotist for basic interventions.

Geriatric Updates – Nicole Mushero will discuss how to perform functional assessments of the elderly patients as well as strategies for managing dementia in a correctional setting.

Food Allergies/Nutrition in the Juvenile population – Michelle Staples-Horne will review the challenges of diagnosing and addressing food allergies as well as the nutritional needs of the incarcerated youth population. Some of the strategies presented will be easily extrapolated to the adult incarcerated population.

GYN Best Practices in Corrections – Andrea Knittel will provide an update on current GYN practices and highlight what every primary care physician should know in the correctional setting.

Diabetes Updates – Jeff Keller will review evidence-based management of diabetes, to include the traditional OHA, insulins, as well as the new SGLT and GLP-1 classes of medication.
3:15-3:45PM Correctional Dermatology
Correctional Dermatology – Rebecca Ballard will discuss the presentation and diagnosis of common dermatologic issues in the correctional patient, as well as simple strategies to manage even the most resistant rashes.
3:45 – 4:45PM RNs and Pharmacists as Chronic Care Providers fireside chat
RNs and Pharmacists as Chronic Care Providers fireside chat – Marc Stern, Todd Wilcox will host an informal discussion as well as take questions from the audience on how non-clinicians can augment and be an extension of the correctional healthcare team.

I&D techniques, POCUS and diabetic foot wound care.

3) POCUS (ascites, pleural effusion, bladder obstruction)
