ACCP Correctional Medicine Grand Rounds on Wednesday,           

Dr. Rayel is an expert specialty consultant in psychiatry. After completing a New York University geriatric fellowship, he went on to a second fellowship at Harvard in Forensic Psychiatry.  

As a well-known author, Dr. Rayel has written self-help and how-to articles and books on mental health, psychiatry, and parenting. 

Given his experience in psychiatric practice with correctional patients in both Canada and the US, he brings expertise to the interface between internal medicine and mental healthcare.

Title:  Psychiatric Case Studies—Where Medicine and Mental Health Converge

During this session, we will seek participants’ guidance on various aspects of the Correctional Medicine Grand Rounds program. We hope you can attend for what will be a great networking and educational opportunity and your opportunity to give input into the program itself.

Objectives:

1) Learn more about the interface between internal medicine and mental health care for patients in corrections.

2) Understand, through the use of patient case histories, how medical conditions can present diagnostic challenges

3) Discuss best practices in evaluating and treatment of violent or “difficult” patients.

4) Gain mastery of when and how to consult with your psychiatric colleagues.

Grand Rounds will continue to be held on the SECOND Wednesday of every month at 7:30 PM Eastern time. This Grand Rounds session, as usual, will be one hour in duration and will include ample time for questions, discussion, and networking. At this time, all Correctional Medicine Grand Rounds educational sessions are free to all attendees. 

We encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues to attend this session, which will inform us on the primary care management of behavioral and psychiatric conditions in the correctional setting.
